What? So this week we finished our Digital Story. We made it through imovie. I decided that is an awesome program I want to own someday. It took a little while to match the music with photos and giving narration but I think we made a good mix to catch the emotion we wanted.
So what? One thing I have realized since the start of this program that teachers are to be forever busy. So as a student becoming a teacher I am too. This Digital Story took a lot of time and work. I know that when you do a lot they get easier and you can do them a lot faster but of course that take practice.
Digital Stories are definitely something you need to have already stored in your filing cabinet ready when you need them. Like I said before they can be extremely useful in getting that interesting, emotional edge in your lesson. When I see my future students learning and getting the connection I want then I know all my time and effort will be worth it.
Now what? I really love my finished product. I am excited to try more and have a whole bunch of them in my repertoire. Then my student will get a whole bunch of excited hooks for a new unit or lesson. I know this will reach a lot of students in a new way they have maybe never seen before.
I think if I have a bunch of them available my department will really appreciate my hard work. They will see how much I care about my students and they can use them for their students as well. I know that we can all collaborate to my our school the greatest, using many different ways to reach our students.
Video Reflection: Our Digital Story: Immigration
I decided to post my own digital story because I decided it was the best one out there! Well if not at least I think it is pretty good. I want to show you all my hard work and I hope you enjoy it and will able to use it in your classroom someday. I think it will give them that emotion connection of immigrant coming to our great nation!

Digital Story 2
What? This week we were taught one way to make a digital story on Photo Story. My group has decided to make our digital story on immigration. We have already found lots of pictures and now we just need to start putting it together.
So What? I think that digital stories are a neat way to hook in my students into a subject I am about to teach. I am a very visual person so I think that it is a great way to learn about something. You can pretty much so anywhere, teach anything using a digital story and I know that my future students would really respond to something like that.
I am excited to try this new technology to me out. I love movies and I think it will be a fun way to teach and to learn something. When we were being taught how to do it on Photo Story I was actually surprised how easy it is to do. I know that I can use this technology in my future class and they can really gain something from it.
Now what? When I watch a movie it really impacts me. I can lose myself in it. I know that it does not only have a visual impact but music and sounds can also help enhance the senses. I remember movies very well. They have a lasting impression on me. They get me thinking, guessing, and wanting to know more. This is exactly what I want my students to feel when they watch a digital story that I make.
Students learn many different ways. I want to try lots of different ways to get them to understand and retain the information I am trying to teach them. I think that teaching them by using a digital story. I also think that my colleagues will appreciate my ideas and see how effective they can be. This is just another step and tool to use to help me to become the best teacher I can be.

This is a digital story created by a student about how you can never get anywhere if you don't take the time to learn. That you have the responisbility to take care of your own destiny.

Field Experience #3
What? This week we taught our lesson plan that we integrated technology into it. We also spoke with the technology advisor to find out more information about the technology being used in the school.
So what? We are doing our unit on the Pioneers. We gave a lesson on how the pioneers have affected Utah today. So we made a PowerPoint using google.docs to show primary source pictures of pioneers back then. We also compared them to similar pictures of today and how things have changed. My students really responding to this activity. They really made the connection that only technology could have given them.
My whole class got engaged in comparing and contrasting the pictures shown. They stayed interested though the whole show. This just shows me how effective technology is. I know that as a teacher whenever possible I want to include technology into my lessons.
Now what? Seeing how effective this way of teaching is, I want to convince my colleagues to try and use the same method of teaching. I think this school definitely needs to include more technology. After speaking with the technology assistant we could see that they do have resources the teachers just need to use them.
I know that for my students to learn they need to be engaged and for that to happen they need to be interested. The best way to make them interested is to relate to them and they are at the age of technology. I so I am going to try to integrate technology all the time.

The school talks about how using technology in the classroom has been very effective for them. This is just shining more light on the facts that technology is a really great way to get through to students and have them learn the material in a fun and interesting way.

Field Experience #2
What? So this week of field, my partner and I, taught Monday thru Thursday of this week. We are teaching a unit about the Mormon Pioneers.
So what? Field is all hands on experience. I don't think their is really a better way to learn to be a successful teacher than practicing like this. On Monday we had to go over religion which was hard. We taught it straight from the book so as to not preach about it. We also had our field supervisor come and watch us that day. It wasn't the most amazing lesson ever because we were walking a line but I felt we did okay. The next couple of days have been much better. Our lesson plans were awesome and the students have really enjoyed themselves.
We are teaching a technology integrated lesson next week but I have been still observing for technology used in the classroom. Our cooperating teacher used a overhead projector the other day to show pictures of the Holocaust because they are reading Number the Stars. It was a great way for the students to make that emotional connection and visualize pictures that make the story real. Other than their computer rotation once a week they don't get much technology.
Now what? If this class is that technology can really enliven a lesson. Field has taught me that technology is not really used in the classroom still. When I become a teacher I hope I have the resources to use technology in my class frequently.
I think that is I am a good example and use technology in a effective way for my students, my colleagues and department will see how useful technology can be a start using it in their classrooms too. I know my students will get a kick out of it because they use technology everyday in their lives, why not use it at school? Students can learn a lot through technology and it is something they will use for years to come.
Video Reflection: Next Generation Learning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dBT9mmizL8
This video is about exactly what its called. This generation is now learning through technology. It was basically an overview of ways technology is not being used in the classroom. This class being showed was a little advanced. It will be interesting to see if they have that kind of technology in my classroom when I become a teacher.

Field Experience #1
What? I started my field experience this week. I am working with the 4th grade. My field partner and I decided that we wanted to observe our first week so we could get a feel of the classroom before teaching.
So what? I know that this experience will be very beneficial to me as a teacher. I know that it already is as a student. My class is very quiet. I think this is because my teacher has excellent classroom management. I don't really know any major behavior problems within her classroom. My teacher speaks with a very quiet voice and all of her students respect her.
Although the class is very well put together, I feel like there is too much quiet time. There is not a lot of group collaboration going on within the classroom, where the kids can let loose a bit and have some fun. I think that technology could be just the key for something like this. We could make a webquest where the class can work together in groups. Through this they can have fun using technology.
Now what? One thing I have notice is that the class doesn't use technology really at all. Every day all of the 4th grade class split into groups and rotate among the library, the computer lab, music, and PE. This is really the only chance the students have to work with technology, on the day they happen to have computer lab. I think that rotations is a great idea but I think that as a future teacher I can learn to incorporate more technology into my classroom.
This semester has taught me one thing that there is so much you have do to include technology. My students can learn a lot by making a movie for the class to teach their fellow students about something. I know that my department and colleagues will appreciate my ideas on this matter and hopefully start including more technology into their classrooms. As a teacher I want to make a difference, to stand out, to really get through to my students. I know that technology can be a big help to head in that direction.
Video Reflection: Do you teach or do you educate?
This video is to get teachers thinking about how they teach. The video starts off with giving the definition to teach. It says

This video is to get teachers thinking about how they teach. The video starts off with giving the definition to teach. It says
- to explain or teach how to do something.
- to encourage someone to accept a fact
- to give information or instruction in something
- cause someone to learn or understand something
- induce by example or punishment to do or to not do something
Then it ask if you are an educator someone who,
- illuminate
- enlighten
- inspire
- empower
Educator: one who gives intellectual, moral, and social instruction.
Mentor: an experienced and trusted advisor.
Guide: a person who advises and shows the way.
Education make a people easy to lead but difficult to drive; easy to govern but impossible to enslave- Peter Brougham
This video really gets you thinking about the responsibilities you have as an educator. There is so much more to being a teacher than standing in front of a class all day. It is important to remember our goal as teachers and what it really means to be a teacher in the long run.

Digital Story 1
What? This week we learned what Digital Stories are. They are short films that tell a story. It now our job to create one for our class.
So What? As a teacher I can use digital stories as an interesting way to teach my students something. As a student I can learn to create something expressive to help my future students. As a colleague my fellow colleagues can use my stories and example to help their students. I can use digital stories in my other classes to prove that I have a great way to hook my students into a certain subject.
I am very excited to try out this new technology because I have never made a digital story before. I personally love movies so I know as a student I would have really gained from this. I can really capture my students and fellow colleagues by expressing the subject I am going to teach through the art of film making.
Now What? My future students will an emotional view of our next topic in class. I want them to be interested in learning so that they will open their minds to what I am going to teach them. Once I have their attention, which hopefully the digital story will do, I am really get them involved in learning.
I think this will make me a better teacher because I am teaching everyone because a digital story will be helpful to visual and oral learners. I could also have my students make a digital story to prove that they really understand the subject and they can teach their fellow students. My colleagues and my department will how dedicated I am to teaching and they will hopefully follow my suit.
Video Reflection: This video was on a digital story of Nasa. I thought whoever made it did an excellent job. It was very well proportioned. There was enough narration and sound clips. It was also very imformative! I can't wait to try one out!

WebQuest Final Fixes & Podcasts/Vidcasts
What? This week we are finishing up on our WebQuest. We also are now working making vidcast and podcast. We need to teach something through both of these methods.
So What? I am excited about my WebQuest it is finally coming all together. I think my students could really like an activity like this one. I know that as a student I am really getting the hang of making these and it is improving my PowerPoint skills.
Podcast and Vidcast are extremely useful ways to teach. Students cans still be taught even if you are not there. Students can expand their knowledge through either method. A Podcast is a tool that allows you to hear something through a computer, ipod, etc. A Vidcast is another tool that allows you to see something through a computer, camera, etc. I think it would be useful as a teacher to utilize these tools and make things a bit easier or more interesting for my students. I could had my student do an assignment through a vidcast. My students could collaborate make a movie, teach the class something. I think I could become a better teacher by using these tools so that if my students need more information they can find out more through these tools. For example if I am sick one day I could make a podcast for my class.
Now What? I never thought about using these simply tools that I use daily to incorporate them into my class. I think by my example my colleagues can see what that is better to teach a students something several different ways so that they can understand it because everybody learns differently. I really want to be the best teacher I can be. I know that I feel I didn't get a good foundation in a lot of subjects like math because they teachers were explaining it in a way I didn't understand. This way I know I get the concept out because they can see it, hear it, do it.
I really want to be a good teacher. I think my department will like the extra mile I go through using podcast and vidcast to make sure my students don't miss anything. I think they could start making some for the whole school. Maybe a vidcast to show our school pride? I am very excited to utilize these tools in my classroom someday.
Video Reflection: It was on why should we let our students blog. The video suggested to teach communication, literacy, ownership, sharing, collaboration, discussion, empowerment, interaction, motivation, participation, engagement, excitement, conversation, creativity, reflection, to extend the walls of the classroom, to give students a 'voice' and a 'audience', to students a learning environment that is open 24/7, to give them skills useful for their digital futures. Basically it if we think our students can write to learn, they can blog to learn. To see this video go to: http://teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=838&title=Why_Let_our_Students_Blog_

WebQuest 2
What? This week my partner and I really got started on our webquest. We started it up on a PowerPoint. We call it "Where is Flat Stanley". It is based on a book were one little boy is flatten and sent around the world through the mail. We are going to have our students look for a lost souvenir of Stanleys'. While are students are looking they will be learning about the geography of the world.
So What? I think as teacher using webquest to teach a lesson will really get my students involved. As a student I am learning so much just making it. I am becoming more computer savvy. I think we are doing this because it is a great way to bring technology in the classroom. I can learn so much making this webquest that I can make so many more and create a great collection for my students.
This technology will change how my students learn. It will be more interactive and the students and learn so much on their own. My colleagues will see how great this webquest effects my students that they will want to try it with their students.
Now What? I want my students to become more efficient. They use the webquest step by step to complete the task. They will learn about what the lesson has to offer and they will become more knowledgeable about working on the web. I would also hope that they were have fun while they were at it too. I had never heard of a webquest before so I am very excited to try it my class someday.
I know that I can also have my class collaborate to complete a webquest together. I could my lesson be a mystery and they have to work together using webquest to find the answer. I never see a webquest used in any other class that I have observed in either so I think it will make me a better teacher because it will make more inventive. I know that we could also use a webquest to maybe explain the rules of the school as a department.

Holiday
What? So this week we had a holiday so we did not have class. So we worked on our webquest. The webquest is a big project and it will be a useful tool for my students.
So What? My partner and I decided to do our webquest on geograpy since we are teaching the 2nd grade. We are going to have them do a little "Amazing Race." I am very excited to do this lesson as a webquest. Since the students will not actually be able to travel to all the places on their amazing race, they will get to go on a virtual tour of the world. The can use all sorts of resources on the webquest to understand the geography of the world. I think that webquest will make me a better teacher because my students will get to explore the world on their own in a way that technology is just making available to them.
I think I can really start to apply this to my life by making lots of webquest to make collection so that my students will have them available to them. I know that my colleagues would really appreciate my collection as well.
Now What? I really want my students to come away from the project feeling like they just went a on a trip of them world. I really want to make this a great webquest so that they will get excited. I never did anything like this a student and I am not sure I have ever seen it in any of the classes I have a observed in so I think it will really define me as a teacher to have an assignment like this.
I know the students can really get together and collaborate on an assignment like this one. We could even use a webquest as a department to talk about a topic we all have a stand in like staying drug free. I think that our school can go above and beyond using webquest.

WebQuest #1
What? This week we learned about web quest. A web quest is basically a website you can create for your students. The website should be designed to be a lesson plan for your students.
So What? As a teacher I can use a web quest to set up a unit of lesson plans for my students to do at home by themselves. As a student a web quest would be nice because I could see step by step what I am suppose to do for a certain student. As a colleague I show exactly what my class is doing so other teachers can take my ideas for their students.
I think we are doing this because this is a great way to keep your lesson plan organized and accessible for your students and others. I wish I can web quest in other classes because then it would be easier for me to know what to do. I can start making my web quest now so that I wish have a great collection for my students when I become a teacher. This technology is a great idea for all so that ideas on lesson plans and be borrowed and made better.
Now What? This technology will be great for my future students because they will be able to understand the lesson plan and have many more links for further study. I had never heard of web quest before this class and I am very excited to use it and make many great lesson plans for my students to come.
I hope making web quest will make be a better teacher because I know I can come with fun and extensive ideas for lessons. I can make many lesson plans that my students can collaborate and work together on. Since the whole lesson plan will be on the internet they can do at in the comfort of their own homes. My colleagues and as a department as a whole can see exactly what my students are learning and use it to help their students. We can show what we are learning as a school. I think web quest is great because their is a teacher side and a student side. So that other teacher can turn around and use these ideas.
Video Reflection: Surface Computing
This video shows the smart board with a touch screen. Instead of using a mouse you can use your hands to touch these, grab things and move them around. This computer really makes things easy for you. It also give you greater access to what you can do. I think would be nice as a teacher because it gives the students a more insiders view to what they are looking at on the computer and on the net.

My Beliefs
Being a student myself, I use some form of technology everyday in for my classes. I always feel like I am discovery something new, some new tool that will help me be more efficient in my school work. I am also at the stage where school is important to me. I know what I want in life and I know I need to really learn the things I am being taught in school to succeed. I feel like I couldn't get through the week maybe even a day without using some form of technology. If that is how it is for me know I can only imagine how it is going to be for my future students.
They need to be taught technology because they are going to need it for school, for their future jobs, for their life. They are also going to want to use technology, see new technology. At what I believe most of all they are going to learn better through technology. There are so many ways things can be taught through technology today that it would be stupid not to take advantage of them. I want to be the best teacher I can be and I know that technology can help me get there.

Lessons Learned
It's time to face the facts, technology is going got be a part of your students lives whether you like it or not. They will be texting or facebooking in class while your teaching when you tell them not to. So why not just for fun make things interesting by including those type of technology in the classroom? Growing up with technology for the most part I feel like I am pretty "down" with the techie lingo. If staying technology savvy is the only way to get through to your students, why go with it?
I really like the articles and videos we were assigned to read because it talks all about how to engage in a higher learning of technology. Teaching technology in the classroom will be beneficially to your student because they will probably be faced with jobs and careers that are focused around technology. When students are more engaged in the classroom by whatever means its a good thing, so lets think twice about what will get our students attention.

PDP
What? So this week we were forced to look at our strengthens and weaknesses. We had to read a bunch of articles that talk about what is required as a teacher as far as technology goes. We then had to take a survey which ultimately helped us see what we need to work on. Then we had to write blogs on what we are going to do to fix those weaknesses we may have so that we can use technology in the classroom.
So what? As a teacher I need to know what I am required to know so that I can teach my students utilizing technology. As a student this is my opportunity to take classes that will help me get to the stage I need to be at. As a colleague I need to know so that I can help my coworkers if they every need help in class.
This class helps us realize how helpful and necessary technology is in the classroom. So we need to be prepare and know how to use it. In my other classes and in life in general I use technology all the time so that will help me on my way. Knowledge is power and so know what we need to learn and fix in our weaknesses facing technology will help myself and my colleagues.
Now What? Once I have worked on my weaknesses I will be able to use my knowledge of technology to help teach my students. The survey definitely helped my realize that I have a lot more to learn as far as technology goes. I will be a more efficient teacher if I can work smoothly with technology and stay away from those time consuming glitches. Also when my students are using technology in the classroom, if they have any problems I can help them.
I think this will help me to become a better teacher knowing that I am more capable with technology. I realize that I need to keep learning so I can apply more technology into my classroom. I will able to bring my school and colleagues more information they can apply to their classrooms as well. I think that technology is the future so therefore it is a must know when teaching these days.
Video Reflection: How Not to Use PowerPoint
This video was of great example of these you should consider when making a PowerPoint, basically what not to do. I know that PowerPoint are great tools to use as a teacher so therefore it is important to know what to stay away from when making one. I know that as a student I have used PowerPoint before and I think it is best to use it as a guide line for your presentation. My future students and colleagues can learn a lot from my example when using PowerPoint to help get a point across.

Strength and Weaknesses
After reviewing the NET Standards I felt I had a lot to learn before becoming a teacher. When I took the UNI survey I realized that I have the knowledge of basic technology but whether I put it to use it another story. So do you want the bad news or the good news first? Alright let's save the good for last. First of all when something goes wrong with a computer I am probably the last person you want to ask to help you fix it. Also while I understand that their are certain legalities and copy right, I am not sure I would be able to explain in to my students. Although I probably have many more weaknesses lets move on to my strengthens. Now that I am on the road to becoming a teacher, I have started to think like a teacher. Most of the technology I have had experience with and could teach. I even started to reflect how this piece of technology can better my classroom.
So I made some goals to make my weaknesses become strengthens. First of all I might need to take more technologies classes, or when something is not working to just take a breath and try again. I need to be a good example for my students. Second is to refresh my mind of skills I have learned in the past. For example how could I incorporate a spreadsheet in the classroom? Finally learn the legalities of using technology in the classroom.
On uen the offer a wide variety of workshops you can take to help you with your technology skills. I would like to take the ITC (intergating technology and curriculum) workshop. It is a 3 day course to teach k-12 educators tools they can use in class. I would also like to take the Web Academy training. It is a 6 day course on web design.

Google Part #2
What? This week we learned how to make a website through google sites. We could use this application to make a website for our class.
So What? I can't wait to use this as an actually teacher. Utilizing this website my students and their parents can stay in formed at a click of the mouse. My colleagues can see what is going on and they can work with me on grade or school announcements. The calendar can show all the up and coming events. My colleagues can also take advantage of the resources I have listed on my site.
I know that by doing this assignment I am just learning another way to stay organized and efficient, which happened to be my new years resolution this year. All my lesson plans for the week can be listed on this website along with the homework. Students can also use the resources listed to help them with their assignments.
Now What? I like this class because it is constantly giving me great resources to use as a teacher. I would be a fool if I did not take advantage of some of these great tools. I really want to stay organized and I can see that this class website will not only help me in doing so but my students as well.
I can check to see if my students are taking advantage of the website by listing assignments only shown on the website. I can also have an assignment where they have to use the resources listed on the page.
I think this website will help be a better teacher because even if my students are too young to use it at least their parents will be able to see it. This will keep them more involved in their child's life.
I think that as a school we can collaborate on by sharing the calendar and announcements so that everyone knows what is going on in school. Like I said before it is my goal to be more organized and ultimately I think that will make me a better teacher.
Video Reflection: Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill Creativity?
He said that Picasso said that everyone is born an artist, we just change as we grow up. He said that as teachers we need to think abstract so that we don't kill our student's creativity. He also talks about intelligences and how everyone has different talents. We should cultivate those talents, not suppress them. We also need to see our creative capacities for the richness they are and seeing our children for the hope that they are. We need to help children make the future.

Google Part #1
What? This week we learned all about google. We explored google documents, presentations, calendars, and iGoogle. We were then assigned as groups to collaborate and make a google presentation of our classroom rules. We also need to make a Welcome letter on google docs for our classes.
So What? Using google is a good resource as a teacher. I could use google calendar to stay organized. I could also use it on a class website to inform my students what is going on. As a student I really like using google docs. I can write a paper there and know that I can find it on any computer that has Internet. It also saves my revisions so I can always go back and get information I may need. I also like that you can collaborate on google docs and presentation with others. If my classmate and I can not meet up we can just work together online. As a colleague it will also be nice to not to leave a paper trail and save a tree or two. I can always send information through email.
I have been using google docs for a while now and I have never had any complaints. I think it is a great way to save and access your information. As a teacher their is a struggle to use technology is the classroom and then be afraid that is not going to work. As long as you have the Internet and a computer you can access your power point or whatever else through google.
Now What? As a student I know the horror of procrastinating and having to get your assignment all printed out and ready to go the night before it is due only to find out that your printer is not working. Well using google docs, students can now just email you their assignment without leaving a paper trail. Since I already was a big fan of google before this assignment now I can just preach to others how great it is. At my work we don't have word processor or anything to do my homework on until I discovered google docs. Now it doesn't matter what computer I use I can access my work.
I can also give my students an assignment to give a presentation in class. They don't have to stress about planning their busy schedules together they can collaborate together through google. I think that google can help me to be a better teacher by staying organized and informed through google calendar. I can also make things easier for my students. I am not a very organized person and it is my on going goal to become one because that's what I have to do to be a better teacher.
Video Reflection: President Obama's Message for America's Students
The President reflects on his own education. He had is mother teach him for while because that was the only option and how he knew it was important. He talks about the responsibilities of the teachers, students, and parent. He said we could have the best teachers, the most dedicated parents and it wouldn't matter unless you as a student takes responsibility for your own learning.

Ideal Classroom
My ideal classroom is in a school somewhere close to home. School will be in a quaint little neighborhood. It's a small town so everyone walks to school. The parent are all very caring and volunteer at the school a lot. Everyone is the town knows every one's name. Everyone is very involved and works to make theirs a great community.
My classroom is spacious, almost to the point where I worry I won't have enough students to fill it. Our community is always growing and this year I will have 22 students. I have equal number of both boys and girls. I am teaching the second grade. My classroom has great synergy. My students are all very energetic and enthusiastic to learn. All of my students desks are put into tables because I want to have plenty of group activities.
I have a great reading center. It's in the corner of the room. It is decorated in a Hawaiian theme. The Reading Paradise is the name. There are palm trees with a hammock in between. There are also lawn chairs and big bags so the students can get comfortable. There is a heavily stocked book case that the students can indulge in during free time. The reading center will get kids excited about reading. Our classroom is also very colorful and full of my student's art work. We have a bulletin board that is changed once a week to conform with our theme for that week.
My desk and work station is in another corner. It is very neat and organized. I store most of my stuff on my lab top. We have a regular black board as well as a smart board. Our classroom is very technology friendly. We also have a screen and projector. We have ten computers in another corner where students can take advantage of them.
My colleagues are very knowledgeable, they probably have more experience than me. They are very helpful and have lots of great ideas. We like to get together as class and participate in switching classes and having each teacher teach a subject.
I will be in charge of teaching history. I want to go about in a very interactive way. I want my students to get a glimpse of back in time. I am going to let the students do a lot of teaching themselves. They will do reports where they have to present the history to the classroom. I want to do a lot of hands on activities because I feel that is one of the best ways to learn.
My classroom will develop our goals as a class. I would hope that we would want to all work together and include everyone. To treat everyone with respect. To all have integrity. Lets face it if I have the perfect classroom my children would all be saints, but what fun would that be?
Video Reflection: Dalton Sherman; Do You Believe in Me?
This video was is of an inspirational speech given by a student. The student is asking his teachers to believe in him. He said that in order for him to succeed he needs us to believe in him. We need to believe in our students, our colleagues, ourselves. I think as a new teacher you naturally want to believe in your students, you lean on your colleagues, but it's probably really hard to believe in yourself.
