Google Part #1

What? This week we learned all about google. We explored google documents, presentations, calendars, and iGoogle. We were then assigned as groups to collaborate and make a google presentation of our classroom rules. We also need to make a Welcome letter on google docs for our classes.

So What? Using google is a good resource as a teacher. I could use google calendar to stay organized. I could also use it on a class website to inform my students what is going on. As a student I really like using google docs. I can write a paper there and know that I can find it on any computer that has Internet. It also saves my revisions so I can always go back and get information I may need. I also like that you can collaborate on google docs and presentation with others. If my classmate and I can not meet up we can just work together online. As a colleague it will also be nice to not to leave a paper trail and save a tree or two. I can always send information through email.
I have been using google docs for a while now and I have never had any complaints. I think it is a great way to save and access your information. As a teacher their is a struggle to use technology is the classroom and then be afraid that is not going to work. As long as you have the Internet and a computer you can access your power point or whatever else through google.

Now What? As a student I know the horror of procrastinating and having to get your assignment all printed out and ready to go the night before it is due only to find out that your printer is not working. Well using google docs, students can now just email you their assignment without leaving a paper trail. Since I already was a big fan of google before this assignment now I can just preach to others how great it is. At my work we don't have word processor or anything to do my homework on until I discovered google docs. Now it doesn't matter what computer I use I can access my work.
I can also give my students an assignment to give a presentation in class. They don't have to stress about planning their busy schedules together they can collaborate together through google. I think that google can help me to be a better teacher by staying organized and informed through google calendar. I can also make things easier for my students. I am not a very organized person and it is my on going goal to become one because that's what I have to do to be a better teacher.

Video Reflection: President Obama's Message for America's Students

The President reflects on his own education. He had is mother teach him for while because that was the only option and how he knew it was important. He talks about the responsibilities of the teachers, students, and parent. He said we could have the best teachers, the most dedicated parents and it wouldn't matter unless you as a student takes responsibility for your own learning.
